Living Histories

A project that enabled life stories from our group members to be recorded, filmed and broadcast on Two Valleys radio.

This project was designed as a result of a request to record our members' stories about their lives. We felt it was very important to record the person telling their stories in their own voice as this brings so much life and relevance to the tales.

To this end we worked in collaboroation with Two Valleys Radio for the recordings and took our members out on location around the Holme Valley to the places they had chosen, and recorded them speaking in that landscape.

Following the recordings, we hosted two community events, one at Brockholes J&I School and one at Wooldale Methodist Church, to gather and record additional stories from local people. The people who attended on the day brought in objects and photographs and worked in groups to tell the stories behind the objects.

The school children involved were interested to learn more about their local history by touching and looking at objects and listening to older people describing their experiences.

In turn the members of Sharing Memories were able to find out more about what it means to be young in 2011.
